Decapitated are one of Poland's many major contributions to the genre we love and is my latest discovery. A band who I have frequently heard of but never gave time to, had a featured video on my Youtube recommended, shout out to Nuclear Blast who are always delivering the goods. The video was entitled "Homo Sum" and little did I know what would follow was a wall of heaviness and an itch to head bang. It wasn't until I stumbled across the album's opening track, "The Knife" that I knew I was onto something special.
Hearing the opening riff for this album, the technicality and ability of each band member had me hooked from the first note. At breakneck speeds the sheer force, production and screeching vocals of vocalist, "Rasta", the next 40 minutes where nothing short of organised chaos. The band continues the momentum throughout the album, leading into the title track, "Carnival is Forever". Beginning with an eerie, clean melody the band braces your ears for an another assault, riffing that would have a live audience creating multiple circle pits, the track is nothing short of epic and its outro will have you wishing for more. Not to spoil things too much, the album ends with a personal favourite, "Silence". A soft, yet stroke of genius closing track to wrap up one of the heaviest and most impressive records to hit my ears in recent times. "Carnival is Forever", sees guitarist, "Vogg", draw on influences from the late Dimebag Darrell, creating a death metal sound at its core with those classic groove metal influences. I'll be blasting this record all week until my neighbours like it, I suggest you take a look and consider doing the same.
