It's been a while since I've written an album of the week but it's something that I felt needed kick-starting as 2019 runs in full swing.
My days are usually spent exploring a variety of tastes within the metal genre, but this week has been overwhelmingly dominated by the discography of the unique German-outfit Rammstein. This band has always taken the metal genre by surprise and continued to push the boundaries within the studio but also around the world on the live stage. As we all groove in fire-stricken awe to lyrics we don't understand, there is something inherently moving and intoxicating about the music that this band delivers. For me personally it has always been the riffs, production and the simplicity of the music which creates a groove unlike any other.
For this week the album I chose was Mutter. It seemed suitable it has been burning my phone batter for quite some time now. This album for me personally is the band's best work. It showcases the many facets that have taken them to the forefront of not only Germany's music scene but the world. This album offers plenty of the distortion and catchy riffing that is so crucial to the band's sound but also a variety of lighter toned songs which bring the album a lot of diversity and depth.
The band explores their tones and orchestral influences with the popular opener Mein Herz Brennt, whilst delving into the softer side with ballads such as Mutter and Sonne. The classic riffs are showcased more in Ich will, Zwitter, Links 2,3,4 and so on. This album and Rammstein as a whole offer most metal heads, regardless of their taste, something that they can enjoy or appreciate.
To those who speak the language or have researched interpretations the lyrics are well thought and delve into topics that the band is renowned for exploring.
Rammstein have proven they are more than pyro-technic fanatics as each album displays an experimental side that was previously unknown. It has been upwards of 10 years since their last endeavour and it seems that the world is waiting in anticipation for what these Meisters will bring.
