One of the great parts of what I do is having artists from all over the world send me their music. It not only keeps me in the metal scene, but also allows me here to hear fresh music and to get a sense of where the metal scene is going. This week I have 2 new bands for you, the first being Sweden's Kill the Kong, and the second being Finland's Organ Grinder.
Let's start with Kill the Kong. I checked out their music through Spotify and Youtube and was pleasantly surprised. What struck me first was how good the songs actually sounded, which is a testament to the production thats gone into the music. I was also impressed by the band's sense of song structure, whilst managing to be melodic, progressive and catchy at the same time. The music is technical, great to listen to, the vocals are full of aggression and slot well in the sound of the band. The songs that I recommend listening to are The Antagonist, Snake Eyes, Bring the Heat. This album as a whole is a strong start for this band and I am convinced there is something in the air in Sweden, they produce great metal music.
Onto the second band, Organ Grinder, reigning from Finland. I haven't been exposed to much Grindcore in my life, other than Napalm Death. I have always loved the aggression, speed and energy that goes into Grindcore and have appreciated how its sound has derived from death metal and thrash metal, just to name a few. When I first heard Organ Grinder's song, Devour the Dead, I knew what I was getting myself into and I fucking loved it. The song and band as a whole are absolutely brutal, the song has some insane riffs that are perfect for a mosh pit full of people ready to get down. This song had me wanting to head bang and that is always a good thing when it comes to metal music. Like Kill the Kong, the production on this was flawless, the bass and drum sound really made for a heavy sound and the beefy guitar tone helped elevate the band's brutality. I am looking forward to hearing more of what Organ Grinder has to offer.
